About Us

Rapid Boarders is a locally owned and family operated business. It’s also the ONLY Australian white water river boarding tour!

Owners Leigh Newlan and Jada-Lee Moxham have both lived in Cairns for over 10 years, spending the last three researching and developing this exciting new business.

Leigh, who is also Rapid Boarders head guide, resigned from the Australian Defense Force after 10 years to pursue his love of the white water. He has kayaked and rafted the rivers of Cairns for many years. Only to find a more exciting way to get down the river, FACE FIRST on a body board.

After three (3) years of research, and numerous emails to and from the US, we finally received the first shipment of Fluid Anvil’s (boards). Instantly we loved it and spent every possible weekend on the Tully River playing, training and dragging as many of our excited friends down as possible.

In November 2013 Leigh was the only Australian to compete in the First River Boarding World Championships on the Citirum River, Java Indonesia.

Jada is the front of house face of River Boarders.  She has enjoyed the thrill of river boarding since receiving the boarders, although not quite as much as Leigh, and definitely not as skillful, that’s why she stays on the bus.  After years of hospitality and retail, Jada provides an equal balance of customer service to Leigh’s white water knowledge.

She’s definitely the one who will catch you at your best, constantly having the camera stuck to her face when at the river.  She’s also the one everyone loves at the end of the tour, as she is the one who sets up lunch.

Leigh and Jada bring their passion and their professionalism to Rapid Boarders and look forward to sharing Australia’s only white water river boarding trip with you.

Safety: Rapid Boarders runs tours in accordance with Queensland White Water Rafting and New Zealand White Water Boarding Standards.  All guides hold swift water rescue operator and senior first aid certification.
